Free, community-based support service

Te Whare | Our Alcohol and Other Drug Addiction Support Service

We are a Community-Based Alcohol and Other Drug Addictions Service located at 15a Playfair Street, Caversham, Dunedin.

We provide alcohol and other drug addiction services within our integrated hub of health, social, and educational services in Dunedin (Te Kāika Wellbeing Hub).

Our services are designed and delivered from a Te Ao Māori worldview and include one-on-one counselling and whānau support. Our approach is inclusionary harm reduction within Māori centred models of relational care for whaiora (clients) with substance use issues and their whānau. We are not a crisis centre.

Whānau well-being is enhanced through an integrated workforce, whakawhanaungatanga, and whakapapa connection. We support whānau to identify resiliency and protective factors that enhance their well-being. Our range of roles are unique to Kaupapa Māori and include kaimahi who have lived experience, are clinically competent and culturally safe.

  • Harm reduction strategies that focus on practical, strengths-based solutions
  • Culturally responsive care incorporating whakapapa and whakawhanaungatanga
  • A holistic, Kaupapa Māori approach that promotes healing and resilience
